Paul Steinmann studied graphic design at the Staatliche Hochschule für Gestaltung Karlsruhe from 2002 to 2008. The interdisciplinary studies at the HfG also gave him access to the fields of media art, electroacoustic composition, scenography and art studies, which inform his work.

Steinmann has worked for protagonists in the international design landscape, including Karlssonwilker Inc. in New York, Meiré und Meiré in Cologne and Random Studio in Amsterdam, as well as for cultural institutions and commercial clients such as Nike, Chanel, Louis Vuitton, the Museum Ludwig, Museum Folkwang, Theaterhaus Jena or the Red Bull Music Academy. He was one of the two founding partners of the former design studio David & Paul.

Steinmann has been engaged in teaching assignments at various art and design universities with a focus on interdisciplinary and experimental design processes – recently at University of the Arts Bremen. He has been commissioned with managing the Digital Crafting professorship at the Institute of Design Research at the Braunschweig University of Art.

He works as a designer, creative director, artist, musician and consultant in and from Berlin.
